Purchase of Biomass Stoves Eligible for
IRS Tax Credit of $1,500

On June 1, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued its guidance for the 30% consumer tax credit (up to $1500) for the purchase and installation of a 75-percent efficient biomass-burning stove.

The guidelines verify that products that do qualify include EPA-certified wood stoves, fireplaces and inserts, as well as pellet stoves, fireplaces, inserts, furnaces and boilers.

Homeowners can apply for the credit during the 2009-2010 heating season.

If you would like to read the entire guidance, IRS Notice 2009-53, Non-business Energy Property, it can be downloaded here: IRS Notice 2009-53
